المدينة والمدرسة
أصبح مون بيليرين في كانتون فو، المطلّ على فيفيه، مكان تأسيس جمعية مون بيليرين في الفترة من الأول إلى العاشر من نيسان/أبريل عام 1947. فقد جمع فيه Friedrich August von Hayek تسعةً وثلاثين من الاقتصاديين والفلاسفة والمؤرّخين من عشر دول.
مون بيليرين سلسلةٌ جبليةٌ يبلغ ارتفاعها 1080 متراً في الهضبة السويسرية الوسطى، ترتفع شمالي كروم شاردون فوق فيفيه وبحيرة جنيف. وتنتمي قرية لو مون-بيليرين إلى بلدية شاردون في كانتون فو؛ وكان قطارٌ جبليٌّ مائلٌ افتُتح عام 1900 انطلاقاً من فيفيه قد حوّل الجبل منذ الحقبة الجميلة (Belle Époque) إلى هضبةٍ فندقية. هنا افتتح Friedrich August von Hayek في الأول من نيسان/أبريل عام 1947 المؤتمر التأسيسي لجمعية مون بيليرين في فندق دو بارك (Hôtel du Parc)، أي قصر بيليرين الذي شُيِّد عام 1906. وكان قد أعدّ للمؤتمر منذ عام 1945 بالاشتراك مع Wilhelm Röpke وأمين الصناعيين الزيورخي Albert Hunold. وعلى مدى عشرة أيام تناقش تسعةٌ وثلاثون عالماً من عشر دول، من بينهم Ludwig von Mises وKarl Popper وMilton Friedman وGeorge Stigler وLionel Robbins وFrank Knight وWalter Eucken وMaurice Allais وWilhelm Röpke، حول الدفاع عن المجتمع المفتوح في مواجهة الجماعية والاقتصاد المخطّط. وألقى الكلمة الافتتاحية المضيف السويسري William Rappard، مدير معهد الدراسات الدولية في جنيف (IHEID)، الذي كان قد استقدم Mises إلى جنيف عام 1934. ومن هذا اللقاء نشأ أكثر مراكز الفكر تأثيراً في الليبرالية بعد الحرب.
